15 Things Every Small Business Website Should Have

Use this checklist to see whether your website is doing its job: building trust, answering questions and turning visitors into enquiries.
15 Things Every Small Business Website Should Have

Your website doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to do a few things well. Use this checklist to see how yours measures up.

The basics

  1. A clear headline saying what you do and where, visible without scrolling.
  2. Your phone number and email at the top of the page, tappable on a mobile.
  3. A mobile-friendly design. Most visitors will be on a phone.
  4. Fast loading. Ideally a few seconds at most.
  5. The padlock (SSL), so browsers don’t warn visitors your site isn’t secure.

Building trust

  1. Real photos of you, your team, your premises or your work.
  2. Reviews or testimonials from genuine customers.
  3. An About section that tells your story in a few sentences.
  4. Accreditations and memberships relevant to your trade.
  5. Your full business details: name, address and company information where relevant.

Turning visitors into customers

  1. A page for each main service, so people (and Google) can find exactly what they need.
  2. Prices or “from” prices where possible.
  3. A clear call to action on every page: call, book, or request a quote.
  4. A simple contact or booking form.
  5. Google Business Profile and Search Console set up, so you can be found and see what’s working.
